Cod Liver Oil And Cholesterol
The Fishy Way To Fight High Cholesterol
|
Take a fish oil supplement or cod liver oil every day. It just sounds disgusting, doesn't it? In fact, fish oil, omega 3 and cod liver oil supplements have no real taste at all. Like any other gel cap vitamin supplement taken with a full glass of water, they are gone before you have a chance to find out what dissolving fish oil would mean to your taste buds. Some people say fish oil and omega 3 fatty acid supplements are best taken in the summertime, and cod liver oil supplements are best taken in the wintertime. It actually doesn't matter which one you take or when you take them. The truth is that all fish oil based supplements are good for you and will help in your fight against high cholesterol. The most important thing to remember when taking any supplement is to consult with your doctor before you start. Even a beneficial supplement can have negative side effects with certain medications. You also need to get your doctor's expert opinion on the dosage that is right for you - age, weight and lifestyle all play a role in how vitamins, herbs and other supplements work for you. So why does everyone keep saying to take a cod liver oil or fish oil supplement? Because fish oil and omega 3 have been shown to have a positive effect on a variety of conditions and diseases, including: ulcers, cancers, Alzheimer's, depression, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, and even ADD and ADHD in adults. That's a pretty powerful supplement! The only other supplement we know of that has such far reaching positive effects is the age old standby Vitamin C. The biggest difference between fish oil and omega 3 supplements and cod liver oil supplements is Vitamin D. Cod liver oil contains Vitamin D, and fish oil and omega 3 do not. If you have a sensitivity to Vitamin D, are on medications that need you to consume less Vitamin D or otherwise have Vitamin D related health concerns, your doctor will probably suggest you take the fish oil supplements that do not contain it. Either way, your doctor will be happy you asked him about ways to improve your health, and asking about fish oil supplements can be a good way to open a discussion on your cardiovascular health. |
